Q&A
What is 'aqiqah, how is it given out, and who is eligible to receive it? Must it be given to those in need, or can any believer partake?
I am a fifteen-year-old girl. I had a discussion with my teacher and some others about various religious topics, and the response I got was: "You don't understand religion." What do you think, and what is your advice?
I asked Allah for guidance (istikhara), and the answer I got was "don't do it." My question is: am I allowed to repeat the istikhara a second time?
If the color of the Sajda has changed to be nearly black in color which means that it has become dark as a result of sweating, is this color considered as a Hajeb for Sujood (prostrating in prayer)? Accordingly, is it permissible to prostrate on it?
I want to be convinced of the obligation of hijab (head covering) for women. I don't see how a woman's hair or head could be sexually arousing — perhaps if styled in a provocative way, then it would be prohibited. Perhaps covering the head was mandated in the Prophet's time to suit the customs of the Arabian Peninsula at that time, but now styles and customs have changed, and uncovering the hair is no longer unusual. In Surat An-Nur, verses 30–31, it speaks of the khimar to cover the bosom, not the head or hair.
A woman was divorced, but she was told that the two witnesses to the divorce were not just ('adil). So she demanded that the divorce be repeated. Was her action correct?
Regarding the verse that speaks of the Prophet's death and some of his companions abandoning the faith after him: it mentions that Muhammad is only a messenger, before whom messengers have passed away — and if he dies or is killed, will you abandon your faith? The question is: why does the verse mention "or is killed" — does it hint at something, that he was killed? And there is a hadith that says: "Every one of us is either killed or poisoned." What is your view on these hadiths, and could you clarify the verse?
